They Won It for Africa. Now Let's Win It for Them.

A Nation's Chance to Send Two Champion Teams to the World Cup

There are moments when a country gets to decide what kind of story it tells about itself. This is one of them.

In October 2025, in the heat of Ismailia, Egypt, both of South Africa's national hockey teams did something remarkable. The women beat Ghana 4:0 to claim their eighth consecutive African crown. The men dismantled Egypt 5:1 in the biggest winning margin ever recorded in a men's Africa Cup of Nations final, their seventh straight final triumph over the same rivals. Two teams. Two golds. One clean sweep for the country. And with those victories, both squads booked their places at the FIH Hockey World Cups in Belgium and the Netherlands this August.

They earned it on the pitch. They beat the continent to get there. Now comes the part that has nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with us.

The Gap Between Qualifying and Competing

Here is the uncomfortable truth about elite sport in South Africa. Winning your ticket to the World Cup is not the same as being able to afford the trip.

Our players are among the best in the world, but they do not arrive at a World Cup on the back of the kind of funding their opponents take for granted. Spain, Australia, India, Germany, the Netherlands: these are programmes with deep institutional backing. Our women and men carry the same flag onto the same pitches, and they do it while a real funding gap stands between preparation and performance.

That gap is what these two crowdfunding campaigns exist to close. Every contribution goes directly towards the things that turn a qualified team into a competitive one: international travel and tournament costs, accommodation and logistics, high-performance training camps, and the sport science, conditioning, recovery, analysis, and kit that separate a good tournament from a great one.

Who You're Backing: The Men

African champions who produced a performance for the ages in the final, defeating Egypt 5:1 in the seventh consecutive AFCON final between the two rivals.

This is a squad that balances deep experience with a new generation earning its first taste of the world stage. Captain Dayaan Cassiem leads on 99 caps and 36 international goals, alongside seasoned campaigners in Nic Spooner (87 caps), Tevin Kok (84), Sam Mvimbi (83), and Mustapha Cassiem (70). Behind them, a wave of debutants, Ayakha Mthalane, Cullin de Jager, Brendan du Toit, Carlon Mentoor, Damian Knott, Hans Neethling, Jamie Seale, Jared Cass, Kenton Melville, and Trevor de Lora, will pull on the green and gold at a World Cup for the first time.

They open against Spain on 16 August, and they will not lack for belief. What they need is the backing to match it.

Who You're Backing: The Women

Reigning African champions, eight titles in a row, a record of continental dominance that few teams in any sport can match. Now they need a country behind them.

This Is Where You Come In

Crowdfunding only works when a community decides to move together. Not a handful of large cheques, but thousands of people who each do a small thing at the same time. That is the whole idea. The team behind the team.

So here is the ask, and it is a simple one.

If You Can Give

Give. Any amount. Every Rand genuinely counts, and every contribution moves a player closer to the start line in Belgium and the Netherlands.

If You Can't Give

Share. Send this to your family group. Post it to your club's WhatsApp. Tell the parents at your kid's Saturday hockey. Put it in front of the people who love this game and the people who simply love watching South Africans win. A share costs nothing and reaches someone a donation never would.

If You're a Coach, a Club, or a School

Rally your people. Imagine every hockey club in the country putting these links in front of its members for a single week. That is how a nation carries a team.

Why It Matters Beyond the Medal

"When an African athlete stands on a world podium, the impact reaches far beyond the medal. It changes what young people believe is possible, what investors believe is fundable, and what the world believes about the continent."

Rebecca Eliot, Co-Founder of ProTouch

That is what is really on the table here. Not just a plane ticket. A signal, sent from every corner of the country, that when our champions do the hard part, the nation shows up for the rest.

They believed in themselves in Ismailia. Now it's our turn to believe in them.

Back Our African Champions. Power the Push. Share the Journey.
